Coral Gables, Florida - 1974
Kathy Hirschman was my first love and one of my greatest inspirations ever. I met her when I was 14 years old and she was in my English class way back in 8th grade at Ponce de Leon Junior High School (now simply known as Ponce de Leon Middle School). Kathy was a very beautiful and talented young lady: She played the clarinet in band and was a cheerleader, too. Her angelic smile really inspired me and it was because of her that I decided to learn how to play the trombone. My interest in music, which started out as a hobby, eventually turned into a successful career for me: By the time I was 20 years old, I became a professional musician (and still am one to this very day). Several years later, I got a job with Warner Bros. Publications, the world’s premier print music publisher and I worked there for a period of 13 years. Kathy left a very profound and positive influence on me and I owe a lot of my success to her. The last time I saw her was in 12th grade and I really miss her very much. Since then, although I narrowly avoided many terrible things from happening to me, nothing really that bad ever took place. It’s because Kathy is my guardian angel and always looks after me. Over the years, she has brought me happiness, success and lots of good luck. Kathy has always been a very sweet and special person to me and I will never forget her. Because of her, I also have music and harmony in my life. Thank you Kathy! (Photo from the Cavaleon ’74)
